What started as a little project .. ended up an obsession!

This list of freeware was started to see if it was possible replace most, if not all commercially bought software, with free or open source equivalents.

It meant hours of browsing thousands of programs, then downloading and testing hundreds before everything was found that was wanted or needed. Unfortunately, by this time the bug had bitten, and I had became addicted!

There are now a variety of programs, utilities and software tools to cover most needs - not just my own. Sometimes these were programs others had asked for - and if there was a good one available - I'd add it to the collection.

There's not multiple programs all trying to achieve the same thing - mostly just the one hand picked application I believe to be the best of its type, and which fulfills the job or function that is asked of it.

Of course what is considered 'the best' software is often a subjective matter, and sometimes depends upon a users own preferences, but for the most part I have tried to be objective about the selections, although in many cases the choice was obvious.

The software listed here was chosen because it offered ease of use, the best range of features and capabilies compared to other free programs that were currently available, and lastly, being either quite intuitive to use else relatively easy to learn.

As other software titles are updated, found or released, alternatives are always a possibility. Therefore, this isn't a definitive list of free software, as it is always subject to change!
